Regional and remote students are encouraged to apply for a scholarship worth up to $18,000 to support their tertiary education.
Round 5 of the Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarships is still open, to support eligible students to undertake courses from Certificate IV to PhD level.
The Liberal and Nationals Government has committed more than $62 million for the program since 2017. This has delivered more than 3000 scholarships to regional and remote students to access a tertiary education.
Wodonga-based Minister for Regionalisation, Regional Communications and Regional Education, Senator Bridget McKenzie said the program provides students financial support to go towards the costs of completing their studies.
“These scholarships have supported students who would otherwise not have been able to afford a higher education,” Minister McKenzie said.
“The Liberal and Nationals Government is ensuring that no matter where you live you can benefit from our world-class tertiary institutions.
“We want to provide as many opportunities as possible for individuals in regional and remote Australia to pursue further study, and relieving the financial burden is one way to help them to do that.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for regional and remote students and I encourage all those eligible to apply.”
Zoe Radford completed a Masters of Education through the University of New England with the support of a RRES scholarship.
“The scholarship lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. It allowed me to put more time into my studies, purchase textbooks and supplies instead of worrying about paying rent and bills every week,” Ms Radford said.
“I couldn’t recommend applying for this RRES scholarship enough. It has allowed me to focus and succeed in completing my studies without added financial pressure.
“I would say to other students from country Australia that I would do everything in your power to continue to learn. As after all, education, no matter what form, is truly the most valuable and powerful gift you can give yourself.
So, help give yourself the gift of education by applying for this scholarship.”
